My journey with food has always been an uphill battle over the past years. My weight fluctuated a lot. I was either on a strict diet or overeating everything. Neither way made me feel energized or healthy. I figured it had to do with my mind more than anything else.
Going into this year, I set a goal to live intentionally in everything, which includes my eating habits. I want to eat and consume food with peace of mind. I realized it was all about the position of my mind and my heart toward what I eat daily. For that, setting an intention of gratitude towards my food right before I eat helps me tremendously. I enjoyed my meal far more than I did before. I was able to slow down when I ate, and I was able to feel good about what I ate as well. The heart of appreciation indeed puts everything at ease.
For me, it is not about controlling what I eat but more about listening to what my body needs. I do my best to balance out the nutrients in my daily meals and cook everything fresh. But, some days, I don't mind indulging in foods that will bring me comfort.
At the end of the day, it is not about what I eat per se, but the joy and the gratitude that come with it are what I value more, especially when I get to share a meal with the people I love. To me, that is more to cherish.
Comment and share your favorite meal, I will make sure to try it!! <3
Totally true for me, when I really appreciate and take time with my food, feeling grateful, it always seems to do well for me.
It’s great to hear your take on this! I found that learning to listen to my body’s needs that change nearly every day is the best “diet plan” there can be. It invites so much more kindness, tenderness and self-compassion than any other approach could. I’ve also made a point to pause and let the feeling of gratitude float to the surface of my mind before eating, and I, too, found it to make a great difference:)
Do you manage to maintain this approach when eating out with friends or family?
